Outpatient detox is a safe, medically supervised way to begin recovery while continuing to live at home. During outpatient detox, clients receive daily check-ins, physician oversight, and medication support to ease withdrawal—without needing to stay overnight. This approach helps stabilize the body, reduce cravings, and manage symptoms comfortably as you transition into longer-term treatment.
Outpatient detox is ideal for those with mild to moderate withdrawal, a supportive home environment, and responsibilities they can’t step away from. It offers high-quality care, privacy, and flexibility while setting the foundation for sustained recovery.
At Present Moments, we have been increasingly providing this service in recent years due to several factors, including it's flexibility for our clients who have family commitments or need to reside in the home, as well as its popularity with many insurance payors. If you would like to get assistance in checking benefits for this level of care, call us at (619) 363-4767.
Requirements for At-Home or Outpatient Detox
- Medical Director Approval - There will be an initial assessment to ensure that the level of care is appropriate.
- Family support - Clients who undergo an outpatient detox should reside in a supportive home in between visits.
- Daily appointments - We will be checking in with you for counseling, to check vitals, drug-testing, and more (some sessions can be completed via Telehealth).
How Long is At-Home Detox for Drugs and Alcohol?
The length of outpatient detox varies based on the substance involved, the severity of withdrawal, and the client's overall health. Most outpatient detox programs last a few days up to a weeks. Alcohol, benzos (like Xanax), and opioids may require slightly longer timelines due to the length of their withdrawal symptoms. At Present Moments Recovery, your care team evaluates you continuously to ensure you’re stabilizing safely and comfortably. Detox concludes once withdrawal has resolved and you’re ready to transition into the next phase of treatment and long-term recovery.
