Meet Your Medical Director

Katie Hirst, MD

A native Californian, Dr. Hirst grew up in the Bay Area before attending Stanford University for her dual undergraduate degree. After graduation, Dr. Hirst completed a dual residency in Family Medicine and Psychiatry at UC San Diego — and founded the UCSD Maternal Mental Health Clinic during her third year of training.

Dr. Hirst soon became a regional expert in the field of Reproductive Psychiatry. While serving on faculty in three departments at UCSD School of Medicine, Dr. Hirst developed the first Maternal Mental Health Intensive Outpatient Program in the Southwest United States.

Dr. Hirst developed an opioid addiction following the births of her daughters via C-section in 2008 and 2011, and left academic medicine to seek treatment.

Dr. Hirst is board-certified in Family Medicine and Psychiatry, and is able to provide a unique level of care that encompasses the whole patient as a result of this dual training and expertise.

Dr. Hirst balances her rewarding work with personal time devoted to recovery, family and friends. She and her family are avid explorers of National Parks, and she is an enthusiastic indoor cyclist and runner.

This place saved my life and introduced me to a whole new way of living. Extremely caring and well managed facility made me feel spoiled and pampered, which was awesome. I was on a great schedule while I was there and did more self reflection and improvement in my 30 days than I have in my entire life.

Food was amazing and every staff member was professional and genuinely cared. I think everyone in the world would be a better person if they were to go through their 30 day program with an honest effort. I'll never forget you guys and highly recommend the program for anyone suffering from addiction and alcoholism. I'm forever grateful to you guys and am finally starting down a respectable and sober path.

I had the privilege of working for Mark and Amy during the summer. I’ll never forget their kindness and compassion for myself and their clients. They have top notch sober living homes and treatment centers.

This is a one of a kind treatment center that is operated by true professionals. I have seen first hand the care with which each individual is treated at this North County San Diego treatment facility. The facility is in a beautiful upscale location and is well maintained and operated with care.

For now, as I’m still a client in Mark, Amy and their team’s care, I can honestly say I could not have have found a better group to guide me through perhaps the most difficult period in my adult life. From the beginning to today, 8 months and 3 levels of care later, it has been what I needed, when I needed it.
